Design for human connection

In a time of great uncertainty about our shared future, how can we design for human connection? We are more connected digitally than ever before, yet are experiencing acute disconnection from one another and the material world. In this talk, Ashley Lukasik will explore some of the challenges and opportunities made evident in the current context of COVID-19, globalization, emerging technology and social unrest.

She will share film clips from recent immersive experiences curated by her company, Murmur Ring, a virtual pandemic project that explores some of the existential questions we are grappling with today, and how design can play a role in reconnecting us to our humanity.

Ashley's passion is creating the conditions for collective creativity. She curates experiences to help organizations accomplish their strategic aims, and has built her career exposing leaders to human-centered design as a means to respond to complex challenges for which they do not have a preexisting roadmap.

After completing an M.A. in Anthropology at the University of Chicago and running a startup company that licensed UofC medical technology, Ashley spent several years at the visionary design school, IIT Institute of Design, where the original model for immersive experiences was seeded. Her time there inspired me to launch and co-produce The New Bauhaus feature documentary.
